Understand planned cost, approved contract value, changes, invoices, and payment history while keeping accounting as the financial system of record.

Small remodelers need project financial visibility before the accountant closes the month. Operations software should show the job's planned economics and commercial changes without claiming to replace the general ledger.
Operational questions
- What cost and client price did we plan?
- Which changes are approved, pending, or unbilled?
- What has been invoiced and recorded as paid?
- Which purchase or subcontractor commitments are attached to the job?
- What changed since the client accepted the original scope?
The accounting boundary
The project system can organize estimate cost, purchasing, changes, invoices, and payments. Tax reporting, bank reconciliation, payroll, and the general ledger belong in accounting software or a verified integration.
Do not collapse unlike numbers

A truthful evaluation
Ask the vendor to walk one job from estimate through change and invoice. Do not accept a dashboard label as proof of complete job costing; inspect which costs are captured, which are actual versus planned, and what reconciles to accounting.
